Light Keepers Lamp Repair (and custom builds)

We are a small, family-owned business that offers one simple service to our community: we repair lamps by replacing wiring, sockets, dimmers, switches, and other parts of most lamps.

We accept lamps of all kinds, including custom-built, table and desk lamps, floor lamps, sconces, and carriage lighting (mounted on the outside walls of homes, often on each side of the front door or garage). New or old, we can fix most lamps.

"I was rummaging through my grandmother's old house and found an old brass lamp that hadn't seen the light of day in probably 75 years. Sam rewired it and cleaned it up and it now sits in the foyer of my home. Sam was able to restore a piece of my family history and I am forever grateful." Sally B.

We also custom-build lamps, turning rocks, wood, metal, porcelain jars, wine bottles, and other memorabilia into functional lamps.

"My husband sent me to Lightkeepers Lamp Repair with two sections of cedarwood logs. My husband wanted them made into rustic lamps for the porch of our hunting/fishing cabin on the river. Sam did an incredible job turning two 18" tall logs into useable fixtures that were perfect for the job. He was very fair in his pricing and the quality of the workmanship was excellent." Rose L.

Our chandelier services include rewiring, cleaning, and replacement of damaged or missing pendants and other parts. However, due to other obligations and space available we no longer service chandeliers.

"I knew Sam from church and didn't realize, until he opened the door, that this was his business. I brought him an antique chandelier that I inherited but was in a non-functional condition. Sam rewired it and it now hangs proudly and brightly in our home. Great job." Zachary K.

Light Keepers: Lamp Repair is a family-owned and operated business. We are located in Mobile, AL. If coming to a home to do business with a small-niche craftsman is a problem for you, then you are wanting more than to have your lamp or chandelier repaired. To afford a store-front operation, we would have to increase repair volume by a factor of 20 and our basic pricing by 50% higher. We value craftsmanship over the need for a storefront and I do the repairs in our home to save you money. That way I can help customers with their needs, while still working a full-time job.

"I admit, I was put off at first, that Lightkeepers wasn't a store-front operation. However, I found out this was one of the main reasons he hasn't increased his prices in many years. When he reminded me how often people used to have shops on the first floor and lived on the second floor, I understood. Mr. Shorrosh is definitely a craftsman. I found out he limits the number of lamps he works on at any given time. His workmanship is excellent, and I have since been back, with several other lamps. He and his wife are always gracious and kind" Rebecca R.

By the way, Sam is an insurance claims adjuster and works out of his home. He works with a number of insurance carriers and catastrophe adjusting companies, providing exceptional service to people across the USA. He was able to repair 30 lamps for me after a fire destroyed my home, and provided an invoice for reimbursement by my insurance carrier. How cool is that.

My day job is as an insurance adjuster, helping people in 35 states to recover from damages incurred from major weather disasters. In between storms, when things slow down, I often increase the number of lamps I have time to repair. When storm season hits, my skills are needed elsewhere to help people who have been devastated by severe weather.

"Sam, I just wanted to thank you again, in writing, for the lovely experience you provided as well as the top-level service. I thought the lamp I brought you was beyond help. Your attention to my request to convert it from a single socket to a low-medium-high wattage socket was much appreciated as my eyes sometimes need the brighter light when reading or crafting. I look forward to antique shopping on weekends and to bringing you my treasures to redeem their purpose. Regards, Joan R."

When you bring us a genuine antique that needs more than just a socket replaced, we are able to contact antique vendors across the USA to request hard-to-find parts. Please be aware that original parts get harder to find every day and in the current environment, post-Covid-19, deliveries of parts are taking considerably longer than before the pandemic.

"The hurricane lamp I brought you was over 100 years old. I still cannot believe you were able to convert the oil lamp to an electric lamp and tracked down an original glass chimney to complete it. Thank you." Mason H.

So, if you have a sentimental piece that's been sitting in the attic or garage for years, because it doesn't work, get it out, clean it off, and bring it to us. Many a customer has discovered how valuable that item really is after we repaired it.

"Sam, I never would have guessed what I had sitting around my house until I happened on your services. Your research into the provenance of my crystal lamps gave me their history (the 1890s - Brilliante Period). Because of the information you provided, I was able to get them appraised. As you noted in your email, similar lamps sold for $12,500 each. I had to apologize to my wife for teasing her about the price of $50.00 she paid for each of the twelve she bought at an estate auction. You went above and beyond, and I am grateful." Scott W.

If you have moved or will be moving to this area from another country, we can update your plugs and wiring to US URL standards.

"My husband's company moved our family from Australia to Alabama. We brought along over 30 lamps of various designs, which Sam rewired for American electrical requirements. The turnaround time was incredible as we needed those lights to brighten the kitchen, living room, and bedrooms throughout the house we purchased. It felt so good to have familiar things around us as we settled into our new home." Leena J.

Should you experience a disaster and have an insurance-covered loss, we handle insurance claim requests for technical reports and evaluations as well as estimates for repairs.  As a licensed insurance claims adjuster with dozens of insurance companies, under certain conditions, we can help get your lamp repairs covered by your policy.

"I'm so thankful we weren't home when lightning struck the gas line into our home. The subsequent explosion destroyed our home, and we lost our pets. Digging through the aftermath we recovered 27 lamps. Sam was able to restore all but one, which was beyond help, and provided the written report that got us reimbursed by our insurance company. Thank you." Wendy L.
